¹One day, Taemonim chose Go Min-hwan as Her head disciple and conducted a work of renewal for governing with the Seven Stars.²She ordered Gahng Eung-chil, “Bring Me your gat and outer robe.” She donned these, giving Herself the appearance of a man.³She then ordered Min-hwan, “Bring Me your gat and clothes.” She changed into this attire.⁴She had Min-hwan wear Her own clothes so that he adopted the appearance of a woman, and She commanded him to remain in Her room.

⁵A time passed, then Taemonim emerged from the room and declared, “I am Jeung-san.⁶Add seven to Min-hwan’s age of forty and it becomes My age of forty-seven. Subtract seven from My age of forty-seven and it becomes Min-hwan’s age of forty.⁷Min-hwan is My representative and Jeung-san’s representative as well.”

⁸Taemonim then selected seven young men and established the Seven Stars Dosu. She had these seven young men don new clothes and serve in Her work of renewal,⁹announcing, “Only the union of spirits and humans can establish the basis of all creation-transformation.”

¹⁰She then had Go Min-hwan seat himself upon a baduk board, hung a scale on him, and declared, “You need only control the scale.” ¹¹She proclaimed to the disciples, “I entrust Min-hwan with all matters from this time forth.”

¹²After completing this work of renewal, Taemonim, clad in male attire, secluded Herself in the outer room for three days, forgoing all food and drinking nothing but rice wine.

¹³Since Taemonim henceforth consulted Min-hwan in conducting all matters of dao governance, the disciples believed him to be Her designated successor. ¹⁴The Gahng followers of Jojong-ri Village harbored discontentment because, during Her work of renewal, Taemonim had not worn Gahng Eung-chil’s clothes and had conferred the dosu upon Min-hwan. The Gahng followers’ disgruntlement began on the night of this work of renewal.
