¹In 1915 (DG 45), Gim Hyeong-ryeol’s spiritual eye opened, enabling him to command the spirits and wield the power of creation-transformation to control the winds and clouds.²Other disciples who had served Sangjenim were beset by the desire to attain spiritual powers, so they gathered at the Yi ancestral memorial offering ritual house in Tongsa-dong Village and began their intensive meditation to attain enlightenment.³Over twenty disciples participated, including Bak Gong-u, Gim Gyeong-hak, Gim Gwang-chan, and Mun Gong-sin.

⁴Gwang-chan’s mercurial and quick-tempered nature caused him to be stricken with the qi of madness during the meditation, and he began wildly swinging his fists at others.⁵Affected by this incident, the disciples began to feel misgivings about their intensive meditation in search of enlightenment, so they eventually disbanded and returned to their homes.
