¹In early June of that year, Jeung-san meditated for fourteen days on Sirusan Mountain, attended on by his wife, Lady Jeong.

²At all times during this period, Jeung-san situated himself on the southern side of the mountain with the table for cheongsu placed at a pristine spot. He devoted himself to meditation, offering three bowls of rice three times a day to heaven, earth, and humanity.

³When Jeung-san finished his meditation on Sirusan Mountain on June 16, he left his home village of Gaengmang-ri and journeyed to Daewonsa Temple on Moaksan Mountain, in Jeonju County, and there he immediately entered into meditation at the temple’s Seven Stars Shrine.

⁴During this period of meditation, Jeung-san contemplated the world to come and worried about the imminent annihilation of the world by the onrushing destiny of gaebyeok.⁵Penetrating to the very depths of the principle of boundless creation-transformation, he would sit utterly motionless in serenity for many days and test the principle of creation-transformation governing the changes of winds and clouds.

⁶Earlier, when Jeung-san had been journeying to Daewonsa Temple, all the spirits of the sovereigns of every nation of the East and the West and the spirits of the Twenty-Four Generals had proclaimed from the sky, “Emperor Gahng!” However, Jeung-san had walked onward as if he had not heard them.

⁷Later, after Jeung-san had completed his meditation and initiated his dao order, he one day summoned all the spirits of the sovereigns of every nation and the spirits of the Twenty-Four Generals and had them gather at Mandongmyo Shrine in Cheongju County, Chungcheongbuk-do Province.⁸He then revealed to the disciples, “In the days to come, when this place becomes completely devastated, these spirits of sovereigns and the Twenty-Four Generals will converge upon Geumsansa Temple and stand guard, so honor them faithfully.”
