¹One day, on Her way to Jojong-ri Village in Gimje County, Taemonim ate a midday meal at a restaurant in front of Buyong Train Station.²As She prepared to resume Her journey, She suddenly ordered, “Braid My hair and tie it with a ribbon.” The attending female disciple braided Her hair and tied it with a red ribbon, giving Her the appearance of an old spinster.

³Leading the disciples from the front of the procession, Taemonim waved Her tobacco pipe and loudly sang, “Si-cheon-ju Jo-hwa-jeong Yeong-se-bul-mang Man-sa-ji.”⁴Staggering left and right as She walked, She approached a police substation,⁵and the Japanese policemen manning it became extremely tense. They blocked the procession and demanded that its members identify themselves, shouting, “Who are you people?”

⁶After halting the procession, Taemonim seated Herself on the ground for a while, and the chief of the Japanese police substation investigating the procession approached Taemonim and tried to seize Her.⁷Without saying a word, Taemonim struck the hand of the rude police chief with Her tobacco pipe and then rose to Her feet.⁸In a louder voice, She sang, “Sin-cheon-ji Ga-ga-jang-se Il-wol-il-wol Man-sa-ji.”

⁹Startled and confused, the Japanese policemen drew back and pointed their fingers at Taemonim, calling Her, “Kitchigai! Kitchigai!” ¹⁰And they said in the direction of the disciples, “They follow a crazy woman, so they must be pathetic fools as well.” The policemen, falling into mere ridicule of Taemonim and the disciples, failed to complete their investigation.

¹¹Taemonim and the disciples safely passed the police substation. When they reached Hwangsan-ri Village, Taemonim said, “Bring Me a sedan chair.” She mounted the sedan chair and ordered, ¹²“Quickly, let us go.” With this, they returned to the Jojong-ri Dojang.
