¹After Taemonim conducted the work of renewal for governing with the Seven Stars in 1926, She placed great faith in Go Min-hwan and thus entrusted him with responsibility over all the dojang’s affairs.²Feeling slighted, Gahng Eung-chil and Gahng Sa-seong, leading a group of Jojong-ri Village disciples with the surname Gahng, formed a faction and aired their discontentment, asserting their own contributions and long devotion.³In 1928, when Taemonim made drastic organizational changes to the dojang leadership by introducing new figures, the faction openly revolted and Gahng Eung-chil completely abandoned the dao order.

⁴Thereafter, members of the faction, without any remorse or repentance, continually aired their discontentment before Taemonim and schemed against Her,⁵and their devotion to faith and practice previously fostered during their services to Taemonim and Her works of renewal now evaporated without a trace.⁶Worse yet, they spoke to Taemonim with such vile and spiteful epithets that their irreverence toward Her was unspeakable.⁷In the end, the faction ceased allowing usage of the twenty-four rice field plots that had been tended by the Jojong-ri Dojang for nearly ten years. This made it impossible to support the dojang.

⁸Worst yet, Eung-chil, whose family wealth had been exhausted during his time as a disciple,⁹had the dojang, in which Taemonim resided, placed under his ownership and borrowed money against it without a word of consultation with Taemonim.¹⁰Subsequently, other disciples repaid the loan on his behalf, but Eung-chil ultimately sold the dojang to another villager. ¹¹Taemonim did not learn of these events until the villager came to claim the property. ¹²Finally understanding what had transpired, Taemonim angrily refused to surrender the dojang, so the villager filed a suit against Eung-chil in Jeonju Regional Court for breach of contract. ¹³Because the dojang had been constructed with funds contributed by numerous followers, Eung-chil eventually lost the legal dispute and was punished with a fine. ¹⁴He lacked the money to pay the fine, however, and received a six-month prison term that his son Dae-yong served in his stead. ¹⁵This dispute was known as the ‘Dao House Trial.’
